An update for the urban masterplan of Hamm
On behalf of the city of Hamm, De Zwarte Hond developed an urban development framework plan for the Rietzgartenviertel, Sportzentrum-Ost in collaboration with Kortemeier Brokmann Landschaftsarchitekten. Conditions changed since the last plan in 2010 and with numerous new construction projects on the approximately 60-hectare site, an update of the plan was necessary.
Based on a comprehensive analysis of the current situation, we drew up guidelines and objectives for sustainable and high-quality development. These take current and future challenges into account, such as changing mobility needs and the effects of climate change. A total of 16 strategies were developed, which we separated into four thematic areas: ‘Spaces and Uses’, ‘Mobility and Development’, ‘Open Spaces and Vegetation’ and ‘Synergies and Energy’.
We paid particular attention to the diverse interests of residents during the planning process. This meant involving the entire urban community in the framework plan through the use of various participation formats such as district walks and workshops. Based on the results, we formulated the goals and overarching strategies.
A big thank you for the excellent and productive collaboration goes to the city of Hamm, Nils Kortemeier, Daniel Wilker zu Felsen and Merle Winkelmann from Kortemeier Brokmann Landschaftsarchitekten as well as Matthias Rottmann, Lennart Senger, Janke Rentrop and Jana Passetschnik from De Zwarte Hond.
