Building work commences on MFA Kruidentuin in Barendrecht
The go-ahead for building the Kruidentuin multi-functional accommodation (MFA) in Barendrecht was celebrated on 18 April 2016. The building will house De Hoeksteen primary school, the Eiland Marlyne child-care centre, a large sports hall, a ballet studio, neighbourhood teams and the Centre for Children and Families organisation. The design comprises a cohesion of various volumes that symbolise the identity of the individual users. The choice of a single material and a clear-cut design represents the collaboration within this genuinely multi-functional building: the sports canteen is used by teachers at lunch time and children from the child-care centre later in the afternoon. In the daytime the ballet studio is also used as a games room by the primary school. This makes the usage possibilities for all users considerably greater than if everyone had their own premises. The saw-tooth ridged roof provides a high level of daylight deep in the building. All the south-facing roofing will have solar panels.
MFA Kruidentuin is expected to reach completion in the first quarter of 2017.
