De Zwarte Hond and Studio Nauta Collaborate on New School and Nursery
De Zwarte Hond and Studio Nauta have been selected to deliver an integrated nursery and primary school in the northern Dutch city of Leeuwarden.
The integrated children’s centre, IKC Prins Constantijn, is the result of a bring together of early years and primary schooling by the education partnership PCBO Leeuwarden. Serving over 200 pupils from ages 0 until 13, the project promises to be an exciting opportunity to deliver a building that closely serves contemporary teaching and learning practices, whilst adaptable to the future.
Building upon existing qualities whilst embracing contemporary pedagogic principles, the new building will be organised around a series of flexible clusters, with spaces for collaboration and play, as well as for concentration and quiet. Situated in a residential area to the north of Leeuwarden’s centre, IKC Prins Constantijn will also play an important role in the wider community.
The new building will open for pupils in the winter of 2018
