De Zwarte Hond nominated for Architect of the Year
Every year, Architectenweb awards a prize to the architect(s) who have made the greatest contribution to developing architecture in the Netherlands. The jury of the 2024 edition consists of architect Uri Gilad (Office Winhov), urban developer Lizan Hegeman (BPD | Bouwfonds Gebiedsontwikkeling), architect Raoul Vleugels (Werkstatt) and architect Annemariken Hilberink (HILBERINKBOSCH Architecten). In their comments, they applauded several aspects of our office:
The jury characterises De Zwarte Hond as a great architecture firm with a continuous and robust development. “Realizing timber buildings like SuperHub and Alliander Westpoort, shows that the firm is at the forefront of the material transition. Thanks to its broad expertise, from urban planning to architecture, the firm can tackle a wide range of spatial tasks and is regularly long-term involved in the development of urban areas. In civic projects, despite limited budgets they manage to achieve a high spatial quality every time.”
In addition, the jury finds it admirable that De Zwarte Hond embraces a broad role in the field with partners fulfilling diverse ancillary functions, and by creating its own publications such as the OutThere the firm stimulates social debate. In addition, the jury is enthusiastic about the fact that the agency offers young architects the opportunity to grow and become partners so that the agency continues to innovate in this way too.
Of course we congratulate the other four nominees. The special thing is that this is a public award, so we invite everyone to vote for De Zwarte Hond before 11 October via this link! Read the full jury comments online here.
