Eindhoven gaining height with Lighthouse
The 109-metre tower will be the tallest in the city for now and add 333 rental apartments in the free sector. On the ground floor and the first two floors there is room for leisure, activities and entertainment, including creative and contemporary shops, catering facilities and cultural concepts. Located in the new work and residential area Strijp S which was, until the mid-20th century, the site of the Philips factory complex, Lighthouse’s design refers to the work of architect Dirk Roosenburg who designed many buildings here.
The facade consists of a polished concrete plinth with light and fresh brickwork above it. Here, the bricklayer uses custom-made aluminium profiles to ensure the brickwork remains tight and straight across the entire building’s height. At certain corners, the facade carriers are an impressive feat of engineering ingenuity, allowing for the various staggered sections of the tower’s volume. Special Harbour Windows were also developed to reduce noise pollution by absorbing noise from outside between two facade frames in perforated aluminium panels.
The architecture exudes craftsmanship through the brickwork, the refined detailing around the window frames and the slatted floor edge panels. All details support the concept of the building and emphasize its verticality. The building thus fits in with the lightness and optimism that Strijp S exudes.
