Orbis Medisch Centrum on view at Building to Heal

Tomorrow evening is the opening of the exhibition BUILDING TO HEAL: New Architecture for Hospitals at the Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich. The exhibition at the Architekturmuseum of the Technical University of Munich takes a critical look at the scientific foundations of ‘healing architecture’, particularly its effectiveness and feasibility. Our project Orbis (Zuyderland) Medical Centre in Sittard-Geleen, commissioned by Orbis Medisch Centrum, is also part of the exhibition.

In the design of Orbis Medical Centre in Sittard, we took the patient’s perspective. This resulted in a hospital with only single rooms, living rooms in the corridors where people can meet, and a vibrant atrium that brings the building to life. It was decided that the building would have a linear structure. A central covered ‘street’ forms the axis to which all directly public and patient-oriented functions are adjacent.

The exhibition can be visited from 12 July until 21 January 2024. You can find more information on the website of the Pinakothek der Moderne.
