Park Pavilion wins BNA prize

In the selection of the BNA Best Building of the Year 2020, Park Pavilion De Hoge Veluwe, designed by De Zwarte Hond and Monadnock, has won first prize in the category Identity and Iconic Value. The jury praised the building, which it sees as “a powerful object, designed down to the last detail.” It judged it to be “beautiful, timeless and sustainable.”

The announcement took place on October 22 during a well-attended, corona-proof online event, enlivened by musical interludes, during which BNA director Fred Schoorl and jury chairman Neelie Kroes were in direct video contact with the designers and clients of all the nominated buildings. In his acceptance speech on behalf of De Zwarte Hond and Monadnock, Willem Hein Schenk discussed the design process and thanked the client and other stakeholders for the enjoyable collaboration.

The Park Pavilion is a striking landmark in the middle of the forest and is the base for a day in the Hoge Veluwe national park. The pavilion houses a restaurant, a park shop and education and reception areas. The building offers visitors a warm welcome and, thanks to its surprising interior, adds an extra experience to the Park. Last month the project also won an International Architecture Award.
