Oberbillwerder

In the coming five years some 7,000 new apartments will be built in the east of the Hanseatic city of Hamburg. Together with RMPSL.LA, De Zwarte Hond submitted the Urban Link competition design for Hamburg-Oberbillwerder. Urban Link is not a repeat of the umpteenth dormitory suburb in an urban district, it endeavours to remedy the mistakes made in the past. As the missing quadrant in a system of urban extensions in the sixties, eighties and nineties, Oberbillwerder is intended to bridge the gap between the Bergedorf West and Neuallermöhe Oost and West urban districts and interlink them. In this way Hamburg-Oberbillwerder will become an urban area, a new section of the extension with all the accompanying urban characteristics, opportunities and contradictions, both planned and unplanned.
