StadtUmland – Zwischen Rhein und Wupper: zusammen – wachsen

The development plan Zwischen Rhein und Wupper: zusammen – wachsen was honoured with a special award at the polis Convention. This convention is a trade fair for urban planning, regional development and urban design, held annually in Düsseldorf. Following the jury’s announcement the professional public were also able to view Zwischen Rhein und Wupper. The successful plan was launched by a collaboration of eighteen municipalities and Kreis Mettmann east of the Rhine, on the initiative of Bergische Struktur- und Wirtschaftsförderungsgesellschaft (BSW).

De Zwarte Hond’s team in Cologne and Bureau RMP landscape architects made a significant contribution with their dialogue-orientated format ? already proven in the Netherlands ? to the establishment of this network. In addition to Matthias Rottmann’s Cologne team, Daan Zandbelt contributed the necessary planning expertise. “Crucial for the success of this regional development plan is the fact that we opted for an approach that focuses on quality of life”, explained Rottmann. The programmatic objective “One hour more time” creates a link between widely varying disciplines, such as living, working, mobility and leisure and reinforces identity to a large extent. It was precisely for this successful “regional- moulding process” that the plan received the award, along with two other StadtUmland concepts. De Zwarte Hond looks forward to the successful continuation of the collaboration with their ambitious partners, who are keen to play an active role in the sustainable development of their future.
