Tjeerd Jellema presents an alternative approach to making houses earthquake-resistant

At the earthquake-resistant construction conference, Tjeerd Jellema presented an alternative approach to reinforcing houses. Instead of adding an internal steel frame that runs right through the living space, he devised a reinforcing structure that sits next to the building. Not only does it reduce the inconvenience and loss of domestic enjoyment to the occupants, it also creates additional space which can be used as a (energy-generating) greenhouse or conservatory.
