Work commences at Assen Station

The first concrete for Assen’s new station will be poured in October. The BAM construction company will start on the construction of the station’s underground bicycle facilities this month. According to the planning, the floor, the columns and the deck will reach completion in April-May 2017, after which a start can be made on the realisation of the above-ground part of the station.

The station building forms part of the Florijnas, a large-scale area development aimed at improving access to the city. The station area is one of eight projects within the Florijnas. Within the intervention area, the new multi-directional station building, designed by De Zwarte Hond in collaboration with Powerhouse Company, will shortly be the connecting element between two urban districts. These are currently separated from each other by various traffic flows. A new road tunnel south of the station will solve this infrastructural problem.

Platform 1 and the platform tunnel will also reach completion at the same time as the underground foundation. A video impression of the future station building can be viewed here.
