Herta Mohr Gewinner Betonpreis 2024
Herta is Mohr was announced winner in the Existing Building category during Beton Dag (Concrete Day). This award highlights innovative, sustainable and inspiring use of concrete. The Concrete Association wants to use this award to celebrate leading projects and strengthen knowledge and craftsmanship in the Dutch concrete sector.
The jury justified its choice of Herta Mohr as follows: ‘The renovation of the Faculty of Humanities Herta Mohr in Leiden has been realised in a historically dear and planetarily sustainable (BREEAM Excellent) way. Every effort has been made to functionally reuse building materials from demolition. In particular, the aesthetic and functional treatment of concrete in this project is commendable. A great example that concrete buildings have an impressive lifespan through intelligent renovation.’
Leiden University’s renovated faculty building opened earlier this year. De Zwarte Hond gave the former Cluster Zuid of the Faculty of Humanities a circular and innovative upgrade. A special feature is that the concrete structure and columns of the old building were given a second life. An inspiring example of sustainable building!
Thanks again to all parties involved for the fine cooperation and to the jury for their recognition.
