Herta Mohr nominated for Prix Versailles
As one of six nominees, the Herta Mohr building at the Leiden University has been shortlisted for the prestigious Prix Versailles 2025 in the category World’s Most Beautiful Campuses.
Originally designed by Joop van Stigt in the 1970s (P.N. van Eyckhof–Van Wijkplaats), De Zwarte Hond transformed the university building into a future-proof, welcoming learning environment.
The preservation of the original structure and façade, combined with circular building principles stands out: reused bricks, wooden slats, and concrete elements give the building both character and sustainability. The renovation increased the floor area from 12,458 to 16,008 m² and achieved a BREEAM Excellent certification.
As Jérôme Gouadain, Secretary General of the Prix Versailles, puts it; ‘These new centres of excellence can become real incubators. They inspire a hope for a major ecological, social and cultural revolution that will foster dialogue, a revolution that the world needs now more than ever.”
The World Titles Announcement will be made in early December 2025
