Jeroen de Willigen appointed City Architect of Antwerp
The Antwerp city council has appointed a new City Architect for the next five years. De Zwarte Hond partner Jeroen de Willigen will take up the mandate as of 1 July 2026.
“Antwerp is a dream city: headstrong, layered, and always in motion. The city has a strong tradition of constantly reinventing itself without losing its identity. Being able to contribute, as City Architect, to this ongoing search for opportunities to improve quality of life is an absolute dream job for me,” says De Willigen.
At De Zwarte Hond, we are very proud that Jeroen has been appointed City Architect of Antwerp. De Zwarte Hond sees it as its social responsibility to contribute to the quality of life in cities. Within the firm, this conviction is reflected, among other things, in the involvement of partners and employees in public roles. The position of City Architect is a meaningful and independent role, operating at the intersection of policy, design, implementation, and public debate.
