IKC De Brug soon to be in us

In anticipation of the official opening in mid-April, we took a sneak peek inside this sustainable school building in Nieuwerbrug aan den Rijn.

IKC De Brug is a compact, single-storey building of 1,750 m², housing a primary school, after-school care, toddler care, and a gymnasium. The fully wooden load-bearing structure is immediately visible upon entering; the wooden trusses, purlins, and columns have been intentionally left exposed wherever possible, giving the interior a natural and warm character.

Thanks to the use of wooden trusses, we were able to incorporate curves, creating a green, undulating roofline as the building’s silhouette. This not only adds vibrancy to the design but also contributes to low CO2 emissions and a healthy indoor climate.

The façade is finished with robust, long-lasting brickwork in a header bond pattern. This gives the exterior a bold and timeless appearance, while inside, visitors are greeted by the surprising wooden structure and a central heart. The IKC building encourages collaboration and multifunctional use, offering shared spaces for education and joint activities.
