Construction started for social housing project De Beer

Last week, construction started on De Beer, located on the Beresteinlaan in The Hague. This residential building will replace the old porch flats in De Venen. Its three buildings blend harmoniously into the neighbourhood structure and contribute to the renewal of The Hague South-West. Connection, meeting and affordability are central to the 132 social housing units.

Our design focuses on aspects such as light, air and greenery. The building is linked to its surroundings via accentuated and inviting main entrances that connect to the bridge and footpaths. Open, generous plinths with green front gardens on the streets, match the green character of the neighbourhood and the communal courtyard garden allows residents to meet each other.

De Beer is future-proof through the use of solid materials such as brickwork and concrete. Its robust appearance, inviting entrances and special collective spaces make it a contemporary building with recognisable qualities of reconstruction architecture.

For this project, we are working with Wijkontwikkelingsmaatschappij Den Haag Zuidwest (WOM DHZW), a partnership between Hof Wonen and the Municipality of The Hague, and Dura Vermeer Bouw Zuid West.
