De Oevertuinen will be a green and pedestrian-friendly neighbourhood in IJsselstein

On the site of ROBA Metals IJsselstein, the new residential area De Oevertuinen will be realised with about 550 houses. The inner-city location, which has been used as an industrial site since the 1960s, will become vacant as the company is moving to Lopik.

Heijmans acquired the site and is closely involved in the project’s development. De Zwarte Hond and Polyfern Landscape architects were selected to create a sketch design for the area. Pedestrians and cyclists take centre stage in our new plan. The neighbourhood will have a green character with two large-scale parks, of which one will be along the Hollandsche IJssel river. The landscape extends deep into the neighbourhood with collective inner gardens, attractive residential streets and overgrown pergolas.

Concentrating parking in parking hubs will create more space for greenery and make it easier for residents to meet. Moreover, this reduces the presence of cars and encourages joint use of public space and social cohesion.

Neighbourhood meetings have recently taken place to involve the community in the plans. These are now being developed further so that an environment plan can be drawn up. After that, Heijmans expects the first homes in De Oevertuinen to be built in 2027.
