Het Element reaches its highest point
In a beautiful ceremony in Amersfoort, on Tuesday 25 May, De Zwarte Hond marked reaching the highest point in the construction of the school Het Element, together with all the other actors involved. The new school has three floors and will accommodate 1,300 students in the future.
Reaching the highest point was a cause for celebration, all the more so because the building shell was realized within the construction budget. This was the remarkable achievement of contractor Rotsbouw, with which De Zwarte Hond has previously collaborated, with great success, on the Park Pavilion in the Hoge Veluwe national park. School director Koen Janssen gave a word of thanks, after which the next phase of construction was initiated with the hoisting of the school colours. Crowned by the fluttering flags of Het Element and Rotsbouw, construction work will be carried out on the façade and roof over the coming months. To enliven the building’s cladding, experiments with different brick types and various kinds of mortar joints are underway onsite. The contours of the building already indicate what is to come: classrooms for theory and practice, learning plazas, sports halls, a restaurant and a large atrium. This atrium forms the heart of the building and offers interesting perspectives both inside and out. In the coming months, the neighbouring event field will be developed into an inviting green carpet for the opening of Het Element in May 2023.
