How can Utrecht remain Utrecht?
How can Utrecht remain true to itself while the city is growing rapidly and facing a wide range of urgent challenges?
Commissioned by the City Council, De Zwarte Hond has worked intensively over the past two years in close collaboration with the Municipality of Utrecht to develop a new urban design vision. A vision shaped through street-level conversations, surveys, public meetings, and joint explorations of what the city of Utrecht needs, and can become.
The result is a widely supported urban design vision, which was officially adopted by the City Council last week with a strong majority. The vision outlines eleven clear principles for spatial quality, with attention to the human scale, communities, and microclimates, but also room for the unexpected, experimentation, and the city’s unique character.
