Oberhausen: from business park to urban quarter
The transformation of Neue Mitte Oberhausen is well underway. The area is evolving from Business Park O into an urban, mixed-use district with a new identity, which will be known as “The Loop.”
During a meeting with project stakeholders on site, Johannes Langer of De Zwarte Hond spoke with Mayor Thorsten Berg, representatives of the City of Oberhausen, the economic development agency Oberhausen.Business, and the owner Euro Auctions Immobilien GmbH about the future of Neue Mitte Oberhausen.
A key topic of discussion was how to create more vibrancy in the area over the long term. Housing plays a central role in this, with plans currently in place to develop homes for around 3,500 people. Equally important is a strong green structure that creates connections, enhances the quality of public space, and gives the district its own distinct character.
