Realization of social housing complex De Louise coming closer

Over the summer, construction continued in Amsterdam on De Louise in the new Overhoeks district. De Louise consists of 113 social housing units and was designed by De Zwarte Hond for housing corporation Ymere.

Although mostly modest in size, the apartments feel very spacious due to a good indoor-outdoor connection via the balconies that wrap around the building. In addition, the complex has several collective spaces, such as the central atrium from which the green dock can be accessed, or the communal roof garden on the sixth floor. All apartments are accessible via the atrium that reinforces indoor-outdoor connection with its rich vegetation.

The flexible and extra-high plinth provides space for a versatile programme and various neighbourhood functions. In doing so, the building contributes to the liveliness of the street and adds to the amenities of the Docklandsweg and Overhoeks district. De Louise shows how compact, affordable and pleasant living can go hand in hand.
