financial manager

(32–40 hours per week)
Are you an entrepreneurial finance professional who enjoys engaging with people, thinking along on projects, and taking initiative rather than waiting for things to be “finished”? Then this is a role where you can truly help build and shape the organization.

The role
As a Financial Manager at De Zwarte Hond, you move across the organization. You will be working within a partner-led structure with around ten partners and multiple offices. This means you won’t automatically be “on top” of everything. It requires initiative: actively starting conversations, asking questions, and connecting numbers with projects and people.

The foundation is in place, but not set in stone. That is exactly what makes this role interesting. You will further develop how finance, projects, and organizational development are connected. This requires someone who thinks ahead, communicates clearly, and takes ownership.

In recent years, the role has evolved from execution-focused to a more analytical, advisory, and business-oriented position—and it will continue to develop further. You stay connected to day-to-day practice, but with a strong forward-looking perspective, and you are not afraid to raise topics. Strong on content, with an eye for people.

You will be based in Groningen and travel on average one day per week—to Rotterdam, (meeting location) Arnhem, and once a month to Germany, including Cologne and Berlin. This variation is part of the role and requires flexibility and curiosity

What will you do?

  • Final responsibility for financial, project, and payroll administration of the holding and its operating companies
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual closings and reports
  • Act as a sparring partner for partners and management on project results, investments, and organizational development
  • Further professionalize project administration and reporting (including AFAS)
  • Lead, coach, and develop the finance team (2.4 FTE)
  • Maintain relationships with accountants, banks, and external stakeholders
  • Actively contribute to international topics, particularly related to Germany
  • Identify opportunities and risks and translate them into concrete recommendations

Who are we looking for?
We are looking for an entrepreneurial finance professional who takes the lead, shows initiative, and does not limit themselves to their own domain.

You are visible within the organization, comfortable addressing others, and enjoy bringing people along in your way of thinking

Additionally:

  • You have a completed bachelor’s or master’s degree in finance, business economics, or accountancy
  • You have experience in a similar role or as a business controller in a project-driven environment (preferably in services)
  • You feel comfortable at the intersection of finance, projects, and strategy
  • You combine strong analytical skills with effective communication
  • You easily switch between hands-on work and coaching leadership
  • You have an excellent command of Dutch and English (German is a strong plus—you can at least understand it and are willing to further develop it)
  • You enjoy traveling and working in an international context

What does De Zwarte Hond offer?

  • A role within a leading, creative, and international design firm
  • Room for initiative, entrepreneurship, and personal development
  • Salary between €7,560 and €8,315 gross per month based on full-time employment (scale 10, Dutch Architects’ CAO, including indexation as of January 1, 2026)
  • A contract of 32–40 hours per week, with flexibility and the possibility of working from home one day per week
  • A working environment where performance and celebration go hand in hand
