De Zwarte Hond and Arcadis chosen for Dijk en Waard public transport hub development plan
How do you showcase the identity of Dijk en Waard by designing a sustainable, pleasant and smart public transport hub? How do you combine travel with quality of stay? And how can the station area become a link between urban and rural areas?
De Zwarte Hond and Arcadis are working together with Dijk en Waard municipality on the development plan for the Dijk en Waard public transport hub. By creating various development models, we can explore how the functions of the public transport hub can gain a place in the area, and how the hub can connect with its surroundings. We look forward to working with Dijk en Waard municipality, process manager APPM and the transport companies NS, ProRail and concession holder the Province of North Holland.
We see station areas as ideal places to enhance the juxtaposition of living, working, learning and relaxing. Public transport hubs are by definition accessible to everyone, whether you arrive on foot or by bike, public transport or car. In Dijk en Waard, not only are there residential areas and industrial estates near the station, but also the beautiful landscape of the Kingdom of the Thousand Islands. The public transport hub can form great connections between the various places from, to and within the municipality. It will therefore become more than just a place for rapid transit: we are developing a public transport hub where people will also want to live, work and meet their friends.
In our approach, we believe it is important that the identity of the newly merged municipality is properly reflected in the appearance of the public transport hub. The goal is a future-proof and smartly organized public transport hub, a station that contributes to social transitions, and a development plan that is implemented step-by-step and adaptively.
