Het Element in Amersfoort festively opened
Last week, students opened the brand new school building together with Education Alderman Nadya Aboyaakoub-Akkouh. Het Element was housed in an outdated building that no longer fit their educational vision. In the new building, merging two schools, sports facilities and a language centre, we faced the challenge of creating a healthy, safe and green learning environment.
Located in an industrial and stony area, we created a three-storey, compact design with generous green outdoor space. By building the plan around a generic column grid, the building is also adaptive and flexible towards the future. The facade with brick panels of professions refers to the practical education at the school. On the inside, the roof is finished with wood and light enters beautifully through the shed roofs.
The building has an inviting entrance leading to a central heart with a green and intimate roof terrace. All the clubhouses are also adjacent to this, creating a small-scale and enclosed atmosphere. They also each have their own staircase, so that traffic flows can be separated and the building forms a calm learning environment.
