Our projects being recognized in Dutch media
2023 was another year in which we completed several great projects. Two overviews of 2023, NRC’s architecture highlights and Het Parool’s best new buildings, feature Mercado in Groningen and Liander Westpoort in Amsterdam, respectively.
Mercado is a future-proof meeting place with sustainable flats that gives new impetus to Groningen’s city centre. The design of Mercado and the urban development plan for Rode Weeshuisstraat were made by architectural combination De Zwarte Hond and Loer Architecten, commissioned by developers MWPO and Beauvastgoed Beheer. Mercado has a monumental plinth with 41 sustainable flats built above it by Plegt-Vos.
About Liander Westpoort, Jaap Huisman writes in Het Parool: “It has to be said: Alliander’s new regional office is an overwhelming complex, the appearance of a reddish-brown power station stands out in the harbour area in Westpoort. Masculine, robust, and once again old-fashioned industrial. Form follows function. So, once again, an old-fashioned industrial building has risen, fully in keeping with the sturdy character of the ports.”
