Construction starts at De Suikerzijde

The construction of the first homes in the new city district De Suikerzijde on the west side of Groningen is starting, and this milestone will be celebrated with all involved parties.
At the Bernard Rölinghof, 76 social and mid-rental apartments by Nijestee and Dura Vermeer, designed by Winhov, will be built, along with more than 100 owner-occupied homes, a green courtyard, and a communal neighborhood room.

Together with the Municipality of Groningen, De Zwarte Hond developed the spatial plan, with the vision of transforming the former factory site into a robust and urban district, characterized by abundant greenery, generous layouts, and an inviting atmosphere.
In the future, the area will accommodate around 5,500 homes along with a variety of commercial and social facilities.
