Architecture Days – Brave Decisions for Berlin
For the Architecture Days, De Zwarte Hond opened the doors of its Berlin office. Not to showcase our projects, but to ask the people of Berlin what they want for their city.
Inspired by our travelling exhibition “Bold City, Brave Decisions”, currently on view in Osnabrück, De Zwarte Hond invited visitors to share their brave decisions that could make Berlin more liveable. A map of Berlin opened up space for participation, discussion and reflection. The many notes read like an agenda for the city of tomorrow:
- More space for people: “car-free city centre”, better pavements
- Green and climate: “unsealing” the ground, trees on every second street, parks and benches
- Water: a cleaner Spree and “more places to swim”
- And again: “more housing”
For De Zwarte Hond, voices like these are an important part of our work on the city. In Berlin as much as in the many other places. They make visible where change is needed, which qualities are already valued, and which decisions have to be made today to keep cities liveable in the long term.
Thanks to Architektenkammer Berlin for organising, and to everyone who stopped by despite the heat and shared their ideas with us.
