Construction starts on the underpass at Schiedam Centrum
Construction has started on the new underpass connecting Schieveste and Boerhaavelaan/Horvathweg. This pedestrian and cycling connection is a key element of the integrated vision for the Schiedam Station Area, developed by De Zwarte Hond in collaboration with the Municipality of Schiedam.
The Marie-Anne Asselberghs Tunnel will improve connections between Schieveste, the surrounding business parks and the Mechatronics Innovation Campus Schiedam (MICS). The new route enhances the area’s accessibility, makes everyday journeys for pedestrians and cyclists safer and more comfortable, and contributes to the transformation of the station area from a functional transport hub into a vibrant urban destination.
The Marie-Anne Asselberghs Tunnel is being delivered by the Municipality of Schiedam, ProRail and contractor Van Hattum en Blankevoort. The underpass is expected to open by the end of 2028.
