Creative route connects station area Schiedam
Last Thursday, alderman Antoinette Laan (area development SchieDistrict), together with director Anne de Haij of the Stedelijk Museum Schiedam, placed the last dot of the yellow dot route between the station entrances and P+R at Pathé in Schiedam.
This route is the first part of the development the station area will undergo to become more pleasant for local residents, workers, travellers and visitors. The yellow dots playfully refer to the exhibition by Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama in the Stedelijk Museum and connect different projects within the area development. The dotted route is only the beginning. In the run-up to the realisation of three thousand homes, a ‘walking forest’ will be created at Schieveste, among other things.
Around the station, priority will be given to slow traffic, residing and meeting in the green public space. The area has potential to be a link between the various surrounding districts and neighbourhoods. Thus, in our vision, Schiedam’s station area will become an urban and lively place.
