Construction update: De Suikerzijde
On the western side of Groningen, in the new urban district De Suikerzijde, construction of the first homes has begun.
At the construction site, the outlines of the future public space are becoming visible. The formal structures of the main thoroughfares are taking shape, while the informal inner areas are also becoming more clearly defined. In the future, this area will feature car-free alleys and intimate squares.
De Zwarte Hond, together with the gemeente Groningen, developed the spatial master plan for the district. The vision: to transform the former factory site into a robust, urban neighborhood with abundant greenery, generously and spaciously designed, and welcoming in character. Ultimately, the development will provide space for approximately 5,500 homes, complemented by various commercial and community facilities.
