IKC De Brug officially in use
A sustainable and connecting school building, designed by De Zwarte Hond. The Integrated Child Center (IKC) unites a primary school, after-school care, preschool, and gymnasium under one curved roof. This smart combination promotes short lines of communication, spontaneous encounters, and close collaboration between all facilities — all stemming from one shared pedagogical vision.
The central meeting space forms the beating heart of the building. All classrooms connect here in a multifunctional area that serves as a library, stage, and more.
The building is completely energy-neutral and constructed using as many bio-based materials as possible. The wooden load-bearing structure plays an essential role in this: it’s sustainable and defines the warm, natural atmosphere inside. Outside, the building sits like a pavilion in the green, with play areas on all sides.
Priscilla van Os, Director of IKC De Brug:
“I’m proud of our new building. It’s light, spacious, sustainable, and connected to both nature and the community. In this way, we contribute to the growth of our children and to the future of Nieuwerbrug.”
