Jurjen van der Meer receives medal of honour

“Making places that touch the heart. Not places that stand alone, but are intertwined. To create a city that is more than separate buildings that happen to be near each other.”

These were the opening words of Mayor Koen Schuiling when he presented the medal of honour of the Municipality of Groningen to our founder/partner Jurjen van der Meer. With this award, the city council expresses its appreciation for the major role Jurjen has played in the field of spatial planning in the city. The award ceremony took place during the festival Let’s Gro in the Forum Groningen.

Jurjen is the founder of De Zwarte Hond. After his studies, he worked in Berlin for several years before founding the Karelse Van der Meer architecture firm, later called De Zwarte Hond, together with Thon Karelse in 1985. In the years that followed, the Groningen office expanded with an office in Rotterdam and later Cologne. Based in Groningen, Jurjen has been working on a wide variety of architectural projects for more than 30 years.

Congratulations on this great milestone Jurjen!
