Olympic Ambition
Socioeconomic security, housing crisis, climate change, labour migration. Every week, a different theme seemed to be dominant in this election. However, what is missing from the media and debates in our view is the connection between them. That is why we are not giving voting advice today, but emphasise the importance of a joint, integrated approach. We explicitly call on our professional community, governments, clients and other social partners to think and participate in this.
It is clear that these challenges are not separate and can only be addressed in an integral way. We aim to balance the systems of climate, nature and people and close global cycles.
The 15-minute city, with proximity as a key factor, is crucial in this. We are applying this approach more and more explicitly in our work. In our area vision for Alexanderknoop, for instance, we have transformed this functional traffic intersection into a high-density urban heart for the surrounding garden cities, with a focus on function mixing, active mobility, meeting and climate adaptation. Such transformations in existing urban areas are essential to create a sustainable and healthy environment for our current and future generations.
So let’s tackle these social tasks together in coherence and encourage administrators to lead in this. We are bound to make mistakes when implementing this ‘Olympic Ambition’, but together we can gradually learn to find good solutions.
