Rijnvliet winner Dezeen Award 2025
Rijnvliet, the edible neighbourhood in Utrecht, designed by De Zwarte Hond and Felixx Landscape Architects & Planners, has been awarded Landscape & Urban Design Project of the Year 2025 at the Dezeen Awards, one of the world’s most influential platforms for architecture and design. A 150,000 m² food forest is developed together with the municipality, residents and Æ – Food Forestry Development. More than 1,000 fruit trees and 220 species of edible flora for humans, animals and insects, in the middle of a residential neighbourhood. Rijnvliet is a place where the enhancement of ecosystem services, climate adaptation measures and promotion of social cohesion come together.
Judge comments: “This project really pushes the boundaries of what a sustainable neighbourhood can be. It thoughtfully places sustainability at its core in a conscientious way that should be applauded.”
