Tender won: The Woods in Nijmegen
Together with KondorWessels Projecten (KWP), De Zwarte Hond has won the tender for The Woods: a green urban neighbourhood with approximately 150 timber-built homes within the Winkelsteeg area development in Nijmegen.
The winning concept, The Woods, is fully designed using circular timber construction. The homes will be realised through industrial, modular building methods, allowing flexibility, speed and quality to go hand in hand. By building with biobased materials, we significantly reduce CO₂ emissions and create not only homes, but also a healthy living environment for future generations.
The design features four green courtyards that function as social meeting places. An innovative mobility concept encourages shared mobility and cycling; cars are guests, while public space is prioritised for residents and visitors. In addition, rainwater harvesting, green roofs and enhanced biodiversity contribute to a climate-resilient and ecologically valuable neighbourhood.
