Travelling exhibition ‘Bold City, Brave Decisions’ opens in Osnabrück
Last weekend, De Zwarte Hond, in collaboration with the Verein für Baukultur, opened the travelling exhibition “Bold City, Brave Decisions: How Groningen Became a Model City” at the MIK Museum Industriekultur in Osnabrück. More than 70 guests attended the opening event.
The exhibition explores the challenges and solutions behind Groningen’s transformation into one of Europe’s most liveable mid-sized cities. Its narrative is guided by three key principles: continuity, collectivity, and compactness. Groningen is not presented as a blueprint, but as a source of inspiration, as every city faces its own unique challenges and opportunities.
Few places could provide a more fitting setting than the MIK Museum Industriekultur. Located on the site of a former coal mine, the area has been shaped over generations by people working among tunnels, excavation lakes, and historic industrial buildings.
“Of the three principles, compactness is particularly relevant for Osnabrück,” said Matthias Rottmann, Managing Partner at De Zwarte Hond, during the opening. “There are many opportunities for urban densification here, which could also help address mobility challenges.”
