Lighthouse completed: Eindhoven’s tallest tower

With the completion of Lighthouse, Strijp-S, the former Philips industrial site, has gained a new icon. At 109 metres, it is now the tallest tower in the city. Together with the monumental Klokgebouw, Lighthouse marks the entrance to this dynamic urban district.

Lighthouse comprises 324 rental apartments and 9 penthouses. At ground level, a mix of commercial and civic functions brings vibrancy to Machinekamerplein. The design by De Zwarte Hond is conceived as a vertical brick sculpture, with its varying heights carefully related to the surrounding buildings. From the plinth to the very top, materials and detailing have been meticulously crafted, in the tradition of the work of Dirk Roosenburg, architect of many of Philips’ early buildings.
