Construction milestone reached at BWRI Sappemeer

Last week, a significant step was taken in the construction process: the first wooden elements of the structure were installed. This building, designed with sustainability and functionality in mind, is increasingly taking shape as an inspiring work environment. With a hybrid structure in which wood plays a central role, we are working alongside our partners to create a circular and future-proof building.

Thoughtful Design Within Budget
The design focuses on efficiency and a compact building form to make the best possible use of available resources. Instead of a high-end aluminum standing seam roof, a smart and simpler solution was chosen. Additionally, existing elements, such as the concrete ground floor and the steel structure, have been reused. This not only saved raw materials but also reduced costs, making it possible to construct the wooden framework within the available budget.

Sustainable and Circular Choices
With the start of the wooden new-build construction at the front of the building, the sustainable design choices are becoming visible. The bio-based wooden structure, consisting of columns, beams, and wooden hollow-core floors from Lignatur, has been designed to allow for future reuse and transformation. The exposed wood will remain visible in the office, contributing to a natural and pleasant work environment. Within three weeks, the entire wooden framework will be in place, with only the thin steel bracing elements remaining visible.
