Gilde Vakcollege Techniek festively opened by King Willem
Yesterday, His Majesty the King officially opened the new Gilde Vakcollege Techniek building in Gorinchem, designed by De Zwarte Hond. This innovative and energy-efficient educational facility accommodates nearly eight hundred students who are developing into technical professionals at the pre-vocational secondary education (vmbo), technical havo, and secondary vocational education (mbo) levels.
The new school building, spanning over 10,000 m², is energy-neutral and constructed with sustainable materials. In addition to modern practical classrooms and a strong focus on technical education, Gilde provides a learning environment where craftsmanship, innovation, and personal growth are central.
During the opening, King Willem-Alexander was given a tour of the building, where students demonstrated how they work in the practical classrooms on technical disciplines such as installation, electrical and metal technology, mobility and transport, and construction, living, and interior design. The architect and construction team explained the design and development of the building. The King concluded his visit with a speech marking the 25th anniversary of vmbo, emphasizing the importance of practice-based education for the future of the Dutch labor market.
Director Krijn Redert expressed his pride in the new learning environment: “This building is a tangible investment in the future of technical education. Our students have the space here to develop their craftsmanship and prepare for the job market.”
