Katshoek Transformation Well Underway

During Rotterdam Architecture Month, the future of the city takes center stage. In the Zomerhofkwartier (ZOHO) district, De Zwarte Hond is contributing to this vision through the transformation of the iconic Katshoek Building, originally designed by Huig Maaskant.

The redevelopment is well underway, giving the former office building a new life as a residential building with 245 homes and an open, vibrant ground floor. The building is being carefully renewed: the flat façade will be preserved, the expressive balconies will return, and the stairwells and artwork will be renovated. The addition of one extra storey is designed in keeping with Maaskant’s architectural language.

The original palette of natural stone, concrete, steel, and glass remains the guiding principle, reinforcing the architectural quality of the Katshoek Building.
